After 21 years of service, I retired from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) as a Supervisory Special Agent in June, 2006. Prior to NCIS, I worked as a police officer and a probation and parole officer. In July 2018, I retired as the Director of Apprenticeship and Adult Training at New Horizons Regional Education Center, Hampton, VA. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of New Haven and a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology from Old Dominion University.
I have taught criminal justice and sociology courses as an adjunct professor at a number of local colleges since 1996, including Old Dominion University and St. Leo University. I have been a sociology adjunct at Thomas Nelson Community College since 2005. My research interests include victimology and domestic violence. My graduate thesis, "Pounding Seas Against the Shore: Wife Battering in the U.S. Navy and Its Relationship to Duty Assignment," examined the severity of wife battering in the Navy as it pertains to duty assignments. Subsequent to completing my Master's Degree, I co-edited a book, along with my wife, Judy Mercier, titled "Battle Cries on the Home Front: Violence in the Military Family." This book was a collection of research from several authors examining domestic violence across all of the military branches. I have serviced on a number of boards and commissions over the years, including the Newport News (Virginia) Commission on Youth and the Newport News Public Library Board of Trustees. I look forward to serving on the Missouri State Customer Experience Advisory Board. |
