Teaching business students
My name is Michelle Dawson, and I am currently the Assistant Dean and an Assistant Professor in the Robert W. Plaster College of Business at Missouri Southern State University. I have held this role since 2018. Since 2009, I have taught courses in Business Communication and Microsoft Office/Excel, and since 2015, I have assisted the business unit of the College of Business with assessment and accreditation activities and reporting. My teaching allows me to interact with students early in their college life and help them gain professional skills for their future career. My work in assessment allows me to work with faculty to identify areas where our students are successful in our programs and areas where we can help them improve. My current research interests revolve around pedagogy and teaching employability skills to students.

Earlier in my professional life, I worked in the Human Resources office at Missouri Southern as the Benefits Specialist. This allowed me to work with new employees, both faculty and staff to acquaint them with the benefits available as well as assist employees with aspects of employment insurance, retirement planning, and leave time. I completed an MBA with Missouri State in 2002. My husband and I own a small business in Webb City. I have lived in southwest Missouri all my life. I enjoy the beauty of the area and the culture.,
